Flying Tire - Our Story


How Flying Tire was Established

Sick and Tired of bad service, long waits, and high prices in the motorcycle industry created Flying Tire Motorcycle. The logo was designed with pencil and paper using a plastic cup and a nickel, and the wings were drawn free handed.  The font and the arch over the tire were created at the same time.  Rough Drafts of the concept were scribbled out on only two sheets of paper.

There is nothing new with changing tires and oil on a motorcycle. It has been done for over 100 years.  The only thing that was missing was Service. I came from 20 years with UPS, which was a company that had no products to sell.  The United Parcel Service was based on one thing and that was SERVICE.  From the start Flying Tire Motorcycle was created to have the appearance and professionalism of a chain store.  Logo recognition is very important.

Flying Tire Motorcycle was created on the concept of discount tires for cars, but for Motorcycles.  Where you can pull up get the tires of your choice mounted and balanced in the same day.  Most cases within an hour.  Our Quick Lube or it’s free guarantee was based on the quick lube service for cars. I have been riding for 42 years and have always changed my own oil and filter.  I would ride to Harley to purchase my own oil and filter for $49.95, ride home and crawl underneath my bike, change the oil and filter, and then have to find somewhere to discard the oil. Then a simple oil and filter change ends up being a 2 hour process, just to save a little money.  So, I thought to myself …. How am I going to attract people that change their own oil and filter to save money?  The answer is to buy quality products in bulk and offer service to them cheaper than they can buy their own oil and filter to do it themselves and have them out the door in 15 minutes.  The same is true for accessories, exhaust, chrome, and all bolt on applications.

I am going to do this by buying in bulk, cutting down our shop labor rate, pricing everything as close as I can to wholesale, and not try to make our profits off of one single person.  We are going to build our company by opening up several locations to double our profit, not by over pricing our products and service.  I call this the Wal-Mart theory.  This company is going to grow by opening up new locations while keeping the prices low to the consumer. 

Flying tire’s main priority is selling service not products.  We are going to go out of our way to provide fast efficient service to the customer.  We will hire the best technicians and keep allowing them to grow, develop, and share the success of Flying Tire Motorcycle.  Our overhead is going to be low and the shops are going to be small, but our advantage will be the multiple locations with low overhead while providing quality personalized service.  Making the customer feel at home and feel like they received a quality service, product, low prices, and great relationship with all of the staff.
